Licensing clarification of single CPU hosts

I came across this on VMware's site today,

Single Processor Licensing

(I haven't seen the above mentioned yet on these forums, appologies if it's old news.)

It appears that single CPU hosts have now been sanctioned by VMware allowing a 2-CPU ESX license to be used to license 2 physical hosts.

Whilst this has always been possible in the past, it has been a grey area as the HCL indicated that the minimum supported host configuration included 2 cpus.

Thanks for that. This will come in handy for our test lab. Looks like VMWare have got some stick for their licensing model and backed down on this one.

You still have to purchase in multiples of 2, though.

Nevertheless, a good step...

I also notice that they have specified 4 cores per processor. Do you think they are thinking of changing their licensing once 6 or 8 core processors are released?
