Hello,
I need to connect ESX servers from Europe into the VC in North America. the VC contains a license file to server al the Hosts IO have here.
The question is can I point the Europe Hosts to a different license server or do I have to use the same license file??
I thought I would add the servers and then point them to their license server, but the hosts would not add ni the first place.
any ideas?
Thanks
You could point the European host to a seperate license server, or you could use the central license server as well. With VC 2.0.1 patch 2 and higher, you can use multiple license files on the same license server which would save you having to manually combine the licenses into one file.
You could also possibly assign specific licenses to different hosts if that's an issue - see the last post here: http://communities.vmware.com/message/692028#692028
It sounds like your European hosts can't talk to the license server? Any firewalls in between?
Hello,
You need the following:
VC needs a VC license.
ESX needs an ESX and VC Agent License.
Licenses do not all have to come from the same License server. The license server is independent of VC and can be installed anywhere, or split amoungst more than one server.
VC should still be able to manage the ESX servers in Europe as long as VC has access to those servers through all the firewalls.
You need quite a few ports open to talk to ESX. 902 is the most important. Try telneting to that port to see if you can reach it on the european machines.
