Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble tracking down info on licencing....
We want to upgrade from free esxi to a paid version with decent functionality.
If we're to buy vsphere advanced/enterprise/enterprise plus.... how many esxi hosts can we install it on? does it depend how many sockets we get licenced for?
So if we get licenced for 4 physical cpus.. we could install it on 2 esxi hosts with 2 physical cpus each? or one esxi host with 4 cpus? or 4 hosts with 1 cpu each?
Or do we get licenced for 4 physical cpus and we can install it on any number of hosts as long as they dont have more than 4cpus? (Sounds less likely)
How confusing..
Cheers
Simon
all goes by CPU socket. once you buy 4 CPU licences, you can have 4 x 1CPU server, or 2 x 2 CPU or 1 x 4 CPU. it does not tied you down. just remember standard, and enterprise only support 6 cores CPU only. if you need more you will need advance and enterprise plus ..

Thanks.
Also - AUD is worth more than US$ yet they're selling (for one example) the vsphere advanced acceleration kit for $15,199 USD yet $22,000 or so AUD.
Can I just buy the kit from the US and pay USD for it and download it ??
Otherwise its like they want to charge me $8000 just for being australian or something..
Cheers

you might want to contact your aus. local rep. or local reseller, they might give you discounts .. 😃
I also suggest to go though reseller or distributors.
They have a discount, so they can make a better price and payment conditions.

A colleague of mine has made a nice 'VMWare vSphere 4 - Editions Comparison' at http://www.virtualclouds.info/?p=1506
