IOPS and I/O in trans/sec

So i wanted to know :

is there a difference between IOPS and I/O in trans/sec which is a metric after u run a capacity planner report.

if yes then how are the two related?

in any case, hw am i supposed to arrive at iops required for a particular server/vm ?

with the IOPS in place, then you could sized or design your SAN storage with the right raid group for the required IOPS. this is a good read: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2009/12/23/iops/

Are IOPS and I/O ( Trans/sec ) the same ?
