Good View Test Environment ... Openfiler etc

I would like to set up a View test environment to demo the new features and to show to some executives at my company. What would be a basic and decent View test environment to show this? I am thinking the following would be good since I have used it in the past..

Openfiler iSCSi setup (or any iSCSI based program)

vCenter (obviously)

2x old PE860 Intel Xeon servers

Any other ideas or better test setups that I could use or anything I should be aware of before setting it up?

Thanks!

Openfiler is what I use for my test environment.

Your one sticky bit may be the licensing and how to make sure your demo time will not be past the license date. I would love for VMWare to come up with something to license test environments . . .

Why not talk to a partner? They will probably have a lab ready to go for your demonstration (we do if you are in Australia Smiley Happy )

Well I already used it and saw it working at vmworld. Now I want to

deploy it in a test environment so I get familiar with setting it up.

Sorry...not in Australia...although I wish I was!!! Smiley Happy

Openfiler is falureable on my experience, and if you will need some support you will need to pay money for this, nad the price is pretty big, as for me(especially as for free software Smiley Happy ).

I'm using StarWind. It is very reliable and easy in use. There are free and trial versions, so you can estimate it.

All the best!

I use Openfiler currently. It is good for a test environment but not ready for production systems. The pay for support is not ideal either.

Hello,

OpenFiler should work for a demo/test environment as long as you do not pummel it too hard. The issue you may have is bandwidth as you are using 1Gbit links in most cases and only 1 at a time.

That is the major issues I see when I use it, otherwise, I have not had many issues in my demo env.

Agree to Texiwill:

Openfiler is not for real network load.
