ESX 3.5 and applying esXpress VMKernel Ports

Hello

My first post here so please be gentle...

We have a ESX 3.5 enviroment of 4 hosts in a cluster. Each host is configured with 6 nics:

vSwitch0 (vmnic2, vmnic0)

VMPG NET1 (vlan 60)

VMPG NET2 (vlan 40)

VMPG NET3 (vlan 80)

VMPG DMZ (vland 1000)

VMPG NET4 (vlan 100)

SCP Service Console (vswif0: 10.100.10.68)

vSwitch1 (vmnic1, vmnic3)

SCP iSCSI-2_SC (vswif2: 10.15.20.205)

SCP iSCSI-1_SC (vswif2: 10.15.10.205)

VMKP iSCSI-2 10.15.20.105

VMKP iSCSI-1 10.15.10.105

vSwitch2 (vmnic5, vmnic4)

VMPG iSCSI-3 with VC (vlan 10)

VMKP VMotion 10.15.40.5

I hope that the names explain the setup. The question is, now we are implementing esXpress as an backup solution to our new virtualzed environment. The esXpress setup and implementation requires an "dedicated" VMKernel port to connect to a new DFS-disk we have purchased. But the DFS disk is planned to be on network NET4 (on vswitch0). As i recall (and I have also googled it), you should not mix VMKernel Ports with the production network. As I see it, we have to desig this solution soi that the new DFS-disk is instead connected to our "iSCSI-network on vSwitch1.

Any suggestions or thoughts should be greatly appreciated!!! Have a nice weekend!

Jens,

With esXpress 4 it will eliminate the VMkernel Requirement.

We are starting a Closed Two Release Candidate testing program this week for esXpress 4 with invitied esXpress users. Based on the success of that program we will release esXpress 4.
