You'll need 2 ESX hosts and some form of shared storage. See the second link for whiteboxes that will work with ESX3.5 / ESXi. You could also try older servers that have been on the HCL in the past - you can get them cheaply from eBay etc. The first link discusses some documentation sources. For shared storage, you could use a 3rd box and run an iSCSI target or NFS server. Both will provide you with shared storage to test DRS / HA / Vmotion/ etc. You can get free options for the NFS / iSCSI server and you can even run it as a VM (here's such an option - http://www.xtravirt.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=75&func=fileinfo&id=33).

Hello,

It is also possible to run ESX v3.0.x in Workstation 6 and v3.5.x in Workstation Beta 6.5. However to do so you must have an Intel-VT or AMD-Pacifica enabled CPU and PLENTY of memory. 8GBs of memory would be desired. If you do not have these requirements, then you should look at the HCL for guidance.
