Distrobution of VM's via HA

Hello, I was wondering if there was a way to configure HA to VMotion specific VM's to lower utilized ESX servers with priority. Our Oracle database servers are resource hogs and performance drops significantly if vmotioned to a ESX server that has another resource intensive VM on it. Are there any command line tuning tricks that anyone knows about? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

HA does not use Vmotion. DRS does. DRS uses Vmotion to distribute virtual machines among hosts in your cluster to balance the load and give the virtual machines the most resources available.

HA will startup virtual machines that were running on an ESX host in the same cluster. These will get started on the host that is first in alphabetic order. DRS can then be used to distribute those virtual machines across the remaing hosts in your cluster.

Hope that helps!

You can cofigure rules for DRS to keep different VMs apart from each other / or to keep them together
