Direct Attached Storage (DAS) supports vMotion/HA ?

Hi,

I saw a few Posts, Documents, other related Discussions Posts regarding this Topic, but nevertheless there is no precise Statement that says:

Yes, ist supported, or No it isn´t.

Here is our Scenario:

2 x DL380 connected directly to an HP P2000 FC/iScsi (2 FC Ports each Server) and also with iSCSi on the 2 server

The Storagetype was found at the Comp Guide for SAN as "direct Conneted FC"

With the Enterprise Plus Licence all necessary Options are available.

is this solution now supported from vmware?

Are all Options w.g. vMotion,HA, DR .... working with full functionality?

Thanks in advance

HEL

If your DAS supports multiple simultaneous connections to the same LUN from different servers then yes.

Greets,

Depending on OEM firmware updates, as long as you can create a LUN that can be seen and used by at least 2 different ESX boxes simultaneously then you should be able to create an ESX Cluster which will enable vMotion and the other features. This will depend entirely on your hardware and vendor to support.

I saw this with a customer that had a Dell storage unit (sorry, don't remember the model) but they did have to have a certain firmware version to be able to make the DAS clustering aware.

They were using 2 R710s and 1 2950
