Hi, is it possible to migrate a vm from an esx to another with vmotion when vm are stored on local disks ?
Regards
As mentioned, vmotion is when you migrate a VM that is still running and that requires shared storage. If you VM is powered down, you can migrate the VM with VirtualCenter from local storage on one host to local storage on another.
Unfortunatly No, VMotion requires shared disk space.
Cold migrations arn't VMotion migrations though.
I think that you have to do a cold migration with Converter for this. With ESX 3.5 they are going to have the Storage Vmotion funtionality (hot migrate to new storage) but unless you have that I think that it has to be done cold and with Converter. Anyone else done this?
you must use SCP ou VMwareConverter.

Thanks dave for your clear answer.
