A question regards zoning.

Specifically single initiator/single target zoning vs. single initiator/multiple targets.

I am on board with the concept of single initiator zoning over multiple initiator, makes perfect sense.

I can't see the advantage to SI --> ST. All that this seems to mean is that I have to create two zones on a switch where one would do.

I can't see any physical pathing advantage. I asked one of our SAN guys and he indicated that he had heard it helps with preventing LIP storms (Which I had to Google).

Note: I get that you would want separate zones when the targets were different storage devices, or say Tape drives, but why create two zones on a switch for each SP on the same storage device.

SI zoning does help prevent LIP storms, but I see no real value in ST zoning. We certainly dont do it (ST zoning) anywhere for any application.

Thanks. I sort of thought so.
