3.5 vs 3i

Can somebody help me list out the differences in functionality between ESX 3.5 and ESX 3i? I believe that HA support is only experimental in 3i right now and I think there are some other limitations of 3i related to networking. Any clarification on these limitations or differences would be excellent.

Thanks!

Thanks, but I am just wondering if anybody knows at a high level what the advantages of using one versus the other is? I think Vmware markets them as identical in functionality, but I have heard there are some limitations of 3i. I was hoping somebody could shed some more light on this.

Hello,

I am holding off on VI 3i until such time as they improve Security auditting, logging, and assessment of the 3i device. CUrrently there is no known way to have the log data produced by VI 3i to be sent to a remote server. Little things like this make a huge impact when you are talking about security. All they need do is create a way to set the remote syslog system.

Well, 3i is very limited to what you can do to manage them comparing full blown ESX 3.x server. I've heard rumors that Dell is going to embedded 3i on their servers and its going to be free as apposing to $500 at this point. So what's your expectation and what's your concerns posted up here we can help as much as possible.
