PSOD Panic requested by another PCPU

PSOD Panic requested by another PCPU

Hello, the other day one of our ESXI servers crashed.

  • Hypervisor:VMware ESXi, 7.0.2, 17867351
  • Model:ProLiant DL380 Gen10
  • Processor Type:Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5118 CPU @ 2.30GHz

I did see an article that may be similar but it is version 7.0.3, I was hoping for some insight on what this error means and how I can troubleshoot it to be sure it does not happen again.

vmware KB

Thanks!

Comments

As stated in the KB article, the cause could be a TRIM/UNMAP request of 2GB issued from Guest OS can in rare situations result in a VMFS metadata transaction requiring lock acquisition of a large number of resource clusters (greater then 50 resources) which is not handled correctly in resulting in an ESXi PSOD. VMFS metadata transaction requiring lock actions on greater then 50 resource clusters is not common and can happen on aged datastores. This concern only impacts Thin Provisioned VMDKs

Your best course of action is to update to 7.0U3c or later release which has a fix for this issue.

Thanks Sramanuja, I just was not sure because the page was talking about a 7.0.3 system and mine is a 7.0.2

This should be a “discussion” not a “document”, sadly it cannot be changed.
