Failed to load vmfs3 in ESXi 4.1 U3

Failed to load vmfs3 in ESXi 4.1 U3

On Console Error says similar to: No compatible network adapter found

I recently faced issue with my ESXi server , when suddendly one of my ESXI server went to not-responding state and VMs were unreachable. I was able to access the server only from console only not via ssh or vi cleint . I checked in Tech support i was able to see error message as " failed to load vmfs3" , unable to load lvmdriver.

esxcfg-nics -l  command was not giving any output.

I removed the ESX from VCS , brought back the VMs on another host as host was running production servers.

I checked the article "http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102995... " for same issue which only talks about re-installing the ESXI server using HP customised image , but here my ESXi was installed using the same iso only.

I had issue been fixed on the ESX without re-installing . Re-installation didn’t really worked to fix the issue. As here my NIC drivers was creating issue and also vmfs module was not loading.Attached is the error screenshot.

Resolution:

Disabled the NIC from BIOS and then loaded all the modules using the HP customized image. Then i re-enabled the NIC from BIOS and cold boot the ESX to reflect the missing nic drivers and vmfs module. After boot i was able to see ESX version as same ESXi 4.1 U3.

Let me know if anyone have any concerns.
