Hi Don,

Try the following steps:

1. Backup the following regkey: _HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem _

2. Erase the regkey HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216} an below

3. Reboot.

4. Verify that things are working by running

vssadmin list writers

vssadmin list providers.

and then in the services.msc list of services snap ins, make sure the following services are Started Automatically:

1. COM+ System Application

2. Distributed Transaction Coordinator

3. Volume Shadow Copy

4. VMware Physical Disk Helper Service

Automatically but not started:

1. Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider

2. VMware Snapshot Provider

hope that helps.

Kind Regards,

AWT

I seem to be missing 2 of the service's you listed. VMware Physical Disk Helper Service, VMware Snapshot Provider . Vmware tools will not install them even though the tool install was successful.

Sorry about the confusion Don, try to reinstall (Uninstall then restart the Windows) the VMWare tools,

This time before you reinstall the VMWare tools, make sure the COM+ System Application and Distributed Transaction Coordinator is in running state.(make sure to not install the SVGA driver too).

and also, make sure you performs vssadmin list writers in the cmd prompt to check no errors Event 12302 in event viewer as well.

Kind Regards,

AWT

After much trying these are the steps I use to install the provider without need to uninstall or reboot.

Open Services.msc

Start the “COM+ System Application” service

Go to Control Panel -- Programs and Features -- VMWare Tools and click Change.

Choose Modify  (You could choose repair but doing say may require a reboot).

Select the “Volume Shadow Copy Services” and choose “Entire
feature will be unavailable”

Click Next, Change, Finish.

Select VMware Tools and Change again, Next, Modify, Next.

Select the “Volume
Shadow Copy Services” and choose “Entire feature will be installed on local
hard drive”

Next, Change, Finish.

Go back to Services.msc and refresh (F5) and the “VMware
Snapshot Provider” will be there.
