what model of PC or Notebook could install ESX(i) Server ?

Hi All

I am learning vmware product, and I try to build vCenter on my lab. I only have some PC and notebook. and I know I could install esx to vmware workstation (virtual ro virtual). but I could not run any exercises on esx. I plan bug 2 notebook or PC (prefer notebook). but I do know which model could full support esx(i) install.

If vmware has any official document could provide PC or notebook could install ESX (i)??

thanks!!

What exercises are you trying to perform?  You can use workstation 8.0 and install 2 ESX/ESXi VM hosts and install a shared storage VM like Openfiler or FreeNAS for the vMotion/HA/DRS features.  you need need to sure you have sufficient CPU that supports virtualization (Intel VT and AMD-V)  and Memory (8GB Min)

I use an HP Elitebook 8540W for my moble virtual environment.

On a Notebook is really difficult install the ESXi. For this reason I also suggest to use Workstation.

On a PC, maybe you can find some whitebox configurations suitable for you.

Hi All

like notebook, if I buy a workstation, it maybe also have incompatible issue, right ? Whether Lenovo/HP/Dell "Bussiness model" has high possibility or not ?

I find that device fail to install ESX(i) usually have "Nvidia" / "realtek" or "Atheros".....If device, that have these chipset, even attach other chipset  (like another NIC or VGA Card) .Does it still install fail ?

Sorry, My English is poor.
