vsphere lacp settings

Hi,

What is the best practice for full redundancy of the connected physical network ports.

Im using HP Hardware, DL380G9 and 2 HP 5900 10G switches. Since ESXi 5 or 5.5 we had some trouble with the HP Network drivers, failing all of the sudden and bringing down both links in the ESXi.

At the moment, we configured it as active/standby (2x10G), Failback is disabled, Notify switches is enabled.

The HP Switches are stacked but the Ports for this server are not in an LACP trunk.

Would it be better to configure an LACP Trunk on the 2 Switches, and put both 10G interfaces as active and let VMWare handle it IF one switch fails ? Im asking because i would like to try to have more speed than 1x10G anyway, thats why i wanted to enable trunking if it still can be safe for redundancy.

thanks

About speed and performance, it's depended to your environment and you machines usage.

Also you can use active/active even without LACP and virtual switch will manage your traffic.

Read this:

Host requirements for link aggregation for ESXi and ESX (1001938) | VMware KB

Also it's recommended. if you have license to use distributed switches, use them because of its features like network I/O control.

You can use DVS with 2 network connection but it's recommended that use LACP on DVS.

Also using two different network card is best solution for achieve maximum failover.
