vsphere 5.0 datastore is missing

Hello, i need your help i will appreciate it. I can't see the vm its unknow and inaccesible. So i found that the datastore is missing is not connected. I tried to mount it with ssh with the command esxcfg-volume -M and the UDID like this

esxcfg-volume -M 50105409-876f4320-030d-0010f3246b93 but i m getting an error timeout. Do you know what i have to do? Any idea? Thank you.

i logged with ssh and i dont see the datastore folder that it had...do you have any idea? I lost the data? Its very weird

Hi Peri,

Is this a local/fc/iscsi datastore?

When was it last working?

Were there any changes to the environment (power outage/crashes/upgrades etc?)

How many datastores were there on the host and are the other dataatores seen?

Also do a rescan and capture the /var/log/vmkernel logs and upload the last couple of paragraphs here

Also see if http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003955 helps?

Thanks

A

Command that you used seems all right. It should have worked. did you try adding DS from web client/vSphere client?

Once you answer to the queries that A has asked, it would be helpful to understand your issue.

thanks for the answers. This happened before 1-2 days. Basically yesterday morning. It was working before since September. I think the reason is the power, i logged with vsphere and i checked and the vm wasn't responding so i tried to restart the vm. After the restart it was like this. It was only one datastore. I searched yesterday with ssh at the folders but it's not there. The path of the datastore was /vmfs/volumes/...i will take the logs to check about this if you need further information let me know.

also i can't add again the datastore because i don't even see the datastore.

Also when i tried the command with the -l at the resignature it has false. At the events also i see an error like canot file the configuration file for the unknown. This is normal i think because the datastore its not even located right?

i uploaded a txt from the logs.

I also i have a same hard drive and i was thinking if its possible to plug both of them and configure the old hard drive as a secondary just to take the data this is what i need.

I tried but its detecting both hard drives so i can't do anything. If you have any idea or how to fix my issue or for this way.thank you in advance.

Also i found with a tool that the vmfspartition is there and includes the vm files so that that means that i didn't lost the data.

# esxcfg-volume -l

VMFS UUID/label: 50105409-876f4320-030d-0010f3246b93/datastore1

Can mount: Yes <<<--------------------------

Can resignature: No (failed to check for existing active volumes)

So the Can mount - Yesh means if you run the command "esxcfg-volume -M datastore1" technically it should mount the volume

What I am unsure about is the "Can resignature: No (failed to check for existing active volumes)" wonder why this is not coming up as an active volume

What happens if you run the "esxcfg-volume -M datastore1" without the quotes?

Thanks

when i run esxcfg-volume -M with the UUDID i m getting error: timeout.

when i run with the datastore1 i got a different error i thought that is the same to run with the UUDID. Do you want to try again just with datastore1?

The log file does not have latest snippet, it ends at April 20.

Try mounting it again with the same command and upload the vmkernel after the event
