Do you have a FC SAN? If yes disconnect the cable during installation.

The vsd-mount tries to load the service console vmdk file during bootup.

Seem that it is not reachable, and this could be if you have some SAN storage that is configurared as first disk during installation.

Are you doing a full installation or a upgrade from ESX 3?

You say it's a DAS, but it's a shared DAS? do you have MD3000?

We are talking about a R610 Server, with local Disk

I made a fresh Esx4 Installation.

Try to disable iDRAC virtual device and make the installation from local CD and local console.

If this doesn't work, try to call Dell Support.

Can I reinstall Esx4 Without deleting Guests ?

See point 17 at page 41 of Installation Guide:

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.pdf

But if ESX does not start HOW have you created the guest VMs?

Andre,

Let me explain:

My ESX 4 was working fine, I created more than 10 guests, But After a Server Reboot That's What Happen.

Now Checked A little bit on the Internet, and I'm not alone with that problem.

Some other people are Complaining the Same Issue on ESX 4.

Maybe I can check volume or repair volume, or reinstalling ESX 4 without deleting my VMFS partition.

reinstalling ESX 4 without deleting my VMFS partition.

I write before the reference in the installation guide.

Are you sure that you have not make changes in RAID or disk configuration?

Very strange, could be that your VMFS partition is corrupted.

If you have a SnS call VMware support (or Dell support you have the OEM version).

I had the same issue with the vsd-mount after rebooting an HP server. After checking the vmdk path to the esxconsole.vmdk file, i found that the /vmfs/volumes/<storage id>/esxconsole-<console id>/esxconsole.vmdk was missing but the esxconsole-flat.vmdk file was still present. I checked on one of my other servers and recreated the esxconsole.vmdk file manually while adjusting for the longContentID and uuid to just a different random number. The server booted up normally. I can now at least backup my vmdk files and then rebuild this server to make sure everything is clean.

Was there a longer downtime or shutdown of your ESX? If so your Host is effected to the "Not flushing the Cache" for certain RAID Controllers.
