vpxa service is completely missing

Hi

i am running ESX 4.1. The problem i have is that the vpxa service has gone missing. when i run "service vmware-vpxa restart" i get "unrecognized service". i checked the folder and found that the vpx folder at path "/var/log/vmware/vpx" is completely missing.

any idea how can i reinstall the vpxa service?

i have attached the server specifications in a text file

vpxa has nothing to do with your inability to connect to vCenter

...but just in case you need to know how to:

The below seems more like your issue

have you ever added this ESX Host into vCenter? This is when the service will get installed onto your ESX Host. Simply adding it into vCenter will take care of it for you.

yes i had added this ESX host to the vCenter. But now i there is some problem, i can not connect to vCenter Server form vSphere Client, it says. "The server xxxxxx could not interpret the client request. The remove server returned an error /503). and the error stack shows "Call "ServiceInstanceRetrieveContent" for object "ServiceInstance" on Server xxxx failed

is there a way to install vpxa service without running vCenter. because my vCenter is not running. or any suggestion to fix the vCenter Server

thanks for the answer

i read the links you mentioned, but it didnt help. i tried to reinstall agent manually but it failed while running following command

"rpm -qa | grep -i vpxa | awk '{print $1}' | xargs rpm -ef $1" with this error "rmp. no packages given for erase". It looks like the whole package for vpxa is being deleted. i can not even see the /var/log/vmware/vpx directory.

so else i manually install vpxa without the help of vCenter.

If the command

rpm -qa | grep vpxa

give an empty list, if means that the package is not installed.

Do not install the agen manually, but just add to your vCenter Server and the agent will be automatically deployed.

Hi to all;

What if I don't have a vcenter server to add the host and I need to install the VPX package manually, can I do that??

Why would you need to? Only really there for vCenter communications

Sorry, can you please provide steps how did you manage to add host to vcentre? I have similar issue, hosts disconnected with vcentre and cannot get them conneceted.

Thanks in advance
