volume based (I/O) VM monitoring

Vsphere: ESxi 4.0, vCenter 4.0

I am trying to get a volume based monitoring (ie I/O per GB month) solution set up so we can get a report each VMs usage.

Something in the format of:

Virtual Machine 1 = 40GB per month

Virtual Machine 2 = 20GB per month

Virtual Machine 3 = 50GB per month

We use DRS, HA etc so its possible for VMs to move around the cluster so I guess the data will need to come from virtual center.

Does anyone know of a third party product or a way of doing this?

Hi

Try using Veeam Monitor for VMWare. Veeam monitor for VMWare is free and there is a paid version also with more functionalities. It supports ESXi. You can download for free from their site www.veeam.com, Veeam is a VMWare partner.

Hope this information helps

Hi Nikhil,

I have spoken with Veeam but unfortunately they do not currently have a product capable of doing this.

Yes, Veeam Monitor can not make "Average I/O per month report", but it has such data in database and you can either request new feature from Veeam or make some scripts.

I use Veeam Monitor myself mostly for datastore I/O monitoring.
