vmware tools 9.10.5 crash my VM

Hi Guys

in my 5.1 host i have updated one server with the latest vmware tools 9.10.5, after had to reboot the server.

after the server didn't comes back, and won't boot shows  first windows logo and than just black screen for ever.

OS is Windows 2008R2.

tried to log into safe mode but it sucks on the loading files

please advise how to fix this.

managed to fix the problem

people with the same issue please follow the below steps

Boot with Windows 2008r2 server installation DVD, select repair and open a command prompt.

Type diskpart

Type select disk 0

Type list partition

then note the partition number where you installed windows 2008r2 server.

Type select partition X    (X is the partition number where Windows is installed)

type active

type exit

type bcdboo c:\windows     (if C is your windows partition)

1. Try to do t a startup repair on the server using Windows DVD

2. Try to boot the server using last known good configuration  mode

good to know you were able to fix the issue.

However can you confirm issue came when you manually installed VMtools? like not using windows.iso from host itself or different iso downloaded from VMware?

yes i've download the iso from vmware . the iso is not from the host because the vmware tools 9.5.10 are of ESXI 6.0 and our host is 5.5 and latest version of 5.5 is 9.4.12

thought installing the latest version gonna provide best performance.

this the reason why.

But 9.10.5 isn't the latest version

I don't understand why VMware is still releasing tools like this, when they have a whole new release model.  See here:

I agree , this is what was my next question.  However , if you use VUM then its version 10 only , maybe the manual download is of old version.
