vmware remote console not working

Hi,

I have ESX 4 and VI center at one site. Only port 443 and port 80 are open from outside and are forwarded to the VI server.

I can access the server with https://servername/ui from outside the network. Then i can browse in the vsphere web access and if i go to a particular machine and select "remote console".and it opens a new windows- stays black and then shows https://servername:443 could not be connected.

Internally the same url and remote console works fine. Remember we have only port 80 and 443 open from outside to this VI center server.

Can someone help with this problem. I am thinking it might be contacting other ports apart from 443. In that case i want to change them to port 443 or 80.

Pls help as i want to use the remote console for these server and we cannot open ports apart from 80/443.

thanks

Hi Hsgh78,

You may need to open port 903 on your firewall for the remote console to work (read this kb for a complete list of the ports used by VMware products).

I don't think you can change this default configuration, especially using one of the two ports you mentioned as they are already in use.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same. I would like to change it to port 80. Since iam not even using it. Unless port 80 is used by vmware somewhere else.

the only port i am using is port 443 to connect from remote and it works fine, other than that port nothing is forwarded/open to the VI center server. So is there a way i can change the port from 903 to port 80. Our networking standard doesnt allow any other port except 80/443 for remote site.
