vmware ESXi 5.5 (free) and LSI and MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i

Hi,

does anybody know, if the SAS 9271-8i works with the free version of ESXi 5.5 ?

("works"  = the standard installation medium of the ESXi free recognizes this controller and has a driver for it).

thanxs,

Michael

Yes, you can found reference on official VMware HCL: VMware Compatibility Guide: I/O Device Search

Thanx.

Of course i know the HCL, but i've experienced trouble with "compatible" hardware. In my case, an adaptec 6805 was not recognized and is still causing errors. Therefore, i would rather rely on users with positive experiences than on the HCL..

I'm using oem-version of 9270-8i (M5016) so I'm pretty sure 9271 is supported too. IIRC, all those 926x/927x share the same driver and smis-provider.

As for HCL, I do not put high value on it. For my first ESXi-server I got some Adaptec-controller, which (according to HCL) was "supported". Yeah, it was. ESXi recognised it, and I could use it for local datastore. But as later Adaptec confirmed, there was no way of monitoring its health! What is such a raid-controller good for? And it is still on HCL...
