vmkctl.HostCtlException:

When trying to install esxi 4.1 I get the following error

vmkctl.HostCtlException: unable to load module /usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/vmfs3: failure

I'm running a C650D Toshiba with 6Gig ram and a v120 AMD 64bit processor.

It's likely the case that ESXi has not been able to recognize a NIC that it can use. What sort of NIC does the system have?

ESXi doesn't have an Atheros NIC driver. There is a community complied one here - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/customize_oem_tgz.php but I'm not sure if it would be compatible with your specific NIC.

What are you looking to do with ESXi on the laptop? ESXi can be running in a virtual machine if this is for training. Laptops don't tend to make the best ESXi hosts as you need a 2nd PC to install the management client.
