/var/log is full

I wasnt able to patch an ESX.. Found that /var/log was full... vmkernel files are occupying 80% of the space... please advice

• Backup your vmkernel log,

• Investigate why vmkernel log consume large of the space and fix it

• Clean up and make house keeping for /var/log

• Patch

can you show output from df -h ?

is a /var/log a separate file system ?

how much time do you have for this patching ?

Some time ago I had similar problem on two ESX machines

On one of them I solved by extension of /var/log file system using linux livecd and gpard (I had some free space on local drive)

second one I moved all files from /var/log to one of the VMFS and perform upgrade
