vSwitch configuration

I have a question about my setup and I'm looking for some feedback.  First of all we are getting a slow down one of my virtual machines which I don't think has anything to do with the vSwitch configuration but maybe I'm wrong.

We have 3 virtual switches same setup on all 4 host.

vSwitch0 : (3)Nics

2 nics for vMotion

1 nic for Management

vSwitch1: (5)Nics

4 nics for the Virtual machine port group

1 nic for backups

vSwitch2: (2)10GB

both for iSCSI

Now we are using external switch tagging on vSwitch1 for the virtual machines and I know best practice would prefer virtual switch tagging.  I have an attachment for the NIC teaming properties for the virtual machine port group on vSwitch1.  Let me know if you need anymore additional information but from what I have listed is setup look accurate?Nic Teaming.jpg

Your VM Port Group configuration looks fine and you are correct it is preferred to manage the vlan tagging with the vm port groups -

Hi meyner22,

Please check the virtual machine NIC that you have created.

is it e1000e or VMXNET3? VMXNET3 have more good performance than e1000e machines.

If you have windows machine with e1000e you would face the network issues.

for VMXNET3 adapters to function well, you should have vmware tools installed in the OS.

Thanks and Regards,

Shrikant Gavhane.

Procedure

  1. From the vSphere Client that you opened in Installing the VMware initiator software, select the Configuration tab.
  2. Click Networking.
  3. Click Add Networking.
  4. Click Virtual Machine and click Next.
  5. Click Create a Virtual Switch and click Next.
  6. Select a network interface that is running and is not in use by a vSwitch, and then click Finish. A vSwitch is created within a network port group. All hosts that you create are attached to this network port group.
