We performed some overdue Windows updates and now our vSphere Client won't start. We are getting the EXACT same errors described in this kb - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102261...
We are able to access the host from other client installs on other systems but this it the main server used to administer the host so it needs to be fixed. Can I just install the vsphere client for 4.1 over the 4.0 client (even though the host is 4.0) or do I need to get the 4.0 release 1/2)? Is it an install over or do I need to uninstall/reinstall.
I guess worst case scenerio I could just uninstall that .NET update that broke it. Updating the host is NOT an option at this time.
TIA!
Download vCenter 4 U1. It has the client packaged in which you can install separately after launching autorun.

If you are using ESX 4 stay with the 4 client - Things I would do - uninstall and reinstall the VI client - also make sure you did not change anything in the Windows firewall -
According to the article, it won't work with anything less than 4.0 U1 client.
Would anyone have a link to the 4.0 U1 (client only)?

I've got to hunt for the correct login to give me access to it.
I do have the 4.1 client. will that work with a 4.0 host?
For a 4.0 host it will download the relative client.
Hi Alceryes,
.
On 4.0 machine please install related updates then only you can access from 4.1.
