vSphere Essentials 5 license

Hi People,

I have one Dell R710 which has got the following specs:

2x 6 Core CPU

96 GB RAM

because my existing configuration is still running vSPhere Essential 4, how many vsphere essential 5 license do I need to buy to make this new host running with VSphere 5 ?

as per this article: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf my understanding is that I can add this one host to the vSPhere Essential 5 license but I will be left with another 96 GB RAM max to add for the next servers.

In Vsphere 5 Essentials kit come with a bundle supporting a smalll environment with 3 host max with 2 processor(core are unlimited) per host and 192 GB vRAM entitilement. Also it includes a vCenter instance.

As you said you if you go with this license and your left with another 96 GB of vRAM entitlement.

This gives the adavantage for the Small bussiness entitlements.

ah ok, so the actual limitation is only the vRAM maximum pooled in this type of license which is 192 GB for vSphere Essentials ?

but of course I can still present my SAN LUN into the new vSphere host eventhough it is on the different VCenter ?

SAN LUN presented to other host with different license can be presented to this host also, there wont be any problem.

the host that is licensed with vsphere essentials cant be managed by vCenter with standard license.

But point to note:

"Essentials scalability limits are product enforced and cannot be extended other than by upgrading the whole kit to a higher-end bundle (see upgrades sections, below).

VMware vSphere Essentials and Essentials Plus kits are self-contained solutions and may not be decoupled, or combined with other VMware vSphere editions."
