  • 1.  vSphere Client could not connect with server

    Hi there,

I've just built a new ESX 4.0 (update1) server and tried to connect to it directly from the VI Client.

It keeps failing with the following error message:

    Vsphere client could not connect with the server {ip address}

Details: The server could not interpret the communication from the client ... (The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.)

I can successfully ping the server.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

    Thanks

Are you able to connect to the host's web page in a browser?

Please double check there's no firewall between your client and the ESXi host and the IP address is unique.

EDIT: Which vSphere client version are you using?

Many thanks for the response and article

Basically I'm trying to connect to the ESX server via IP as the DNS server we have stated is not currently online and is under construction.

Do you still think it would take 30-40 minutes before I can access via the VI client even by IP?

    Thanks again

for many of my cases it's just 2-3 mins. can you do back to back connection between the server and your laptop to see there is nothing in between that is causing the problem?

Try to restart the management agents (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003490) and make sure they come up without errors.

    What about my other questions/thoughts?

Which version of the vSphere Client are you using?

What about IP address conflicts or firewalls?

Also please ensure the network settings on the host are correct (no typos) IP, subnet, gaweway, ...
