vSphere Client and Windows 7

Hi all,

I know there are already quite a few discussions on this topic and I have read a lot of them as we had problems getting the vSphere Client installed on Windows 7.

Now that it is installed on Windows 7 it mostly seems to work but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing issues with the vSphere client? We have noticed problems with the following:

- The console of our VMs doesn't always dispaly (requires a restart of the vSphere Client)

- When you click on the performance tab of any host or cluster it takes an eternity to display the graphs

Has anyone else got the same problems? Are these a result of the vSphere client not being supported in Windows 7 or does the same thing happen on Windows XP?

Provided you're using vSphere 4 Update 1 then the vSphere Client is fully compatible with Windows 7. I've also noticed the same sort of performance problems with Windows 7 and the vSphere Client, especially when connecting to a host that has a lot of VMFS datastores.

Try this - disable Aero on your Windows 7 desktop and then relaunch the vSphere Client. I ended up disabling Aero for another reason and discovered that the vSphere Client suddenly became very quick and didn't have any of the issues I saw before. Give that a try and see if it helps. Not a great solution but it is at least a workaround.

Hi VMmatty,

I have tried a few other things and in the properties of the vSphere client shortcut have found that checking "run in xp sp3 compatibility mode" seems to work well.
