vSphere Client (In Windows 8 RTM) for ESXi 5?

Has a fix for the vsphere client in windows 8 rtm been announced? What is the timeframe? Its the only thing stoping me from going full bore with windows 8. Not sure if this will be a fix to the client application, esxi itself or both. I know there are people trying to hack around to get it working but i much prefer a native solution rather than a bunch of  hacks which you don't know if they could affect other applications negatively. I also know you could run vsphere under a windows 7 vm but having to start a vm just to run vsphere is not something i want. For those of you not aware when you try to run vsphere client in windows 8 you will get something similar to this:

thanks..

I can't test it myself at the moment, but VMware released a new version of the vSphere Client (VMware-viclient-all-5.0.0-804277.exe) a few days ago. Maybe worth trying!?

Installation is not the problem, that's easy. The problem is that the "Console" does not work.

Not firewall. It's a "known issue", and all people using Win8 have it. Smiley Happy

we have tried to disable the firewall, not the problem. i find it ridiculous that vmware still has this issue 6+ months later.

Well, the OS is not "officially" released. But they could still have fixed it :smileydevil:

well I know for sure that this should be an issue between the client and IE as vmrc utilises api from IE.. might be good to start playing with the activex settings of IE there... only a suggestion Smiley Happy

I have been running windows 8 since the version was released to MSDN and I can say this is the ONLY program that does not work with windows 8 that I use (the same console issue as others). VMware, can you please at least acknowledge the issue? Very unprofessional.

Not so good workaround but it work.

For now I use VMWare Workstation 9 on Windows 8 RTM for console access to my vm console.

Open VMware Workstation 9 then click "Connect to a Remote Server" input your vCenter Server (ESXi also work) then you will have console access.

You still need vSphere client for all the other thing.

Their solution will be to buy vCloud 5.1

Got it working now. vSphere 5.1 VIClient & Web access.

Add the vcenter server to IE's trusted sites.

vSphere Client (5.1.0 Build 786111) is fine for me on Windows 8 RTM connecting to an ESXi 5.1.0 (Build 799733) without anything extra - connects fine.
