HI,
We have a ESX 4i server in which 4 VMs are hosted. This is a standalone ESX server.
one of the production server has a problem that, its NIC gets disappreaded automatically and it will be out of network. Then we need to open its console, shutdown and add the network card again and power on. This has happened 4 times till now in span of 3 months. (Please note that the Network card itself is removed).
Any comments / suggestions please?
"The NIC card itself is removed from the hardware inventory tab" Excatly what Im seeing... the vmware.log for the VM also displays these entries:
Jan 25 12:34:00.087: vmx| Powering off Ethernet0
Jan 25 12:34:00.088: vmx| Hot removal done.

In some Windows versions the NIC can be "ejected" from the VM using Safely Remove hardware icon in the buttom right..
Doing this will remove the NIC from the VM config..... Maybe this is whats happening?

You mean the vNIC disappears from the hardware inventory of that one particular guest?
Do you have snapshots active for that guest?

Just tried it on a VM running 2008 R2. Host is running ESX 4.1..
The vNIC IS removed from the VM configuration.. Goes for E1000 and VMXNET3 in my quick test.

Yes,
The NIC card itself is removed from the hardware inventory tab. We have to add a hardware (network interface) and boot the server.
We do not have any snapshots for the server.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. I think if we disable the hot plug, the issue will be solved.
I shall award points after a while as my web browser is not allowing it at this moment ![]()
