vMotion Using Cross Over Cables to NAS

Hi All,

I have two ESX Servers directly connected to a Synology via cross over cable. Both ESX servers have access to the same NFS data stores however the Synology is not viewed as shared storage due to each cable connecting to a different interface and therefore IP address. This has thrown a spanner in the works as I had hoped each server would see the Synology as shared storage allowing for compute vmotion to be quicker over the direct connected 10GB interfaces.

I would really like to utilise these 10GB interfaces directly without the need of purchasing a 10GB switch. Is there a method anyone can recommend to achieve vmotion using this setup?

I considered bonding the Synology interfaces to create a single IP address accessible from both hosts however I don’t know how this will affect routing with the data going down the correct cable.

Thanks,

Adam

Have you tried mounting the data stores using the same name by manipulating the hosts table on each esx host.

Do you have enough local storage to move the guests around ?
