vCenter Can't Connect to hosts/loses hosts

Hi,

We have just deployed a new vSphere 5.5 setup, I will provide some details below to set the scene:

  • vCenter server - Microsoft Server 2012 Datacenter
    • vCenter installed in correct order as per installation guide - nothing fancy literally just walking through the setup
  • SQL server - Microsoft Server 2012 Datacenter and SQL 2012
  • ESXi Hosts - HP Custom ESXi 5.5 image (from VMware website)

All vCenter certificates were replaced with valid internal CA generated certs and installed with the cert tool. Everything came back successfully and we connected without any warnings. ESXi hosts have had their certificates replaced as well and again everything is OK.

The vCenter was configured to allow AD access from our domain and the basics configured (Datacenter, cluster etc).

We then added two of our ESXi hosts to the vCenter and they connected without issue. The following day one of them was disconnected and reporting errors (There was an error unconfiguring the vSphere HA agent on the host [hostname]... to solve connect to vCenter Server 5.0 or later). I checked the host and it was up and running and you could connect via the vSphere client to it. The vCenter server could ping, resolve the name and web to the host without any trouble.

At some point after this the second ESXi host did the same thing and now both are in this error state. We have rebooted hosts and vCenter an still have this problem. The hosts have no special configuration.

We have also found vCenter does not add other hosts on the network it just times out on the authentication screen (we have confirmed authentication). The server can ping, resolve, trace, web - EVERYTHING without trouble, the software just doesn't want to play ball.

Please can you suggest some troubleshooting to assist? We have Googled and searched on here for suggestions but none have yet looked appropriate to our situation.
