vCenter 5.5 admin-app problem

Hey Guys,

I'm setting up a lab just to get a handle on ESX 5.5 but Im failing at the first hurdle.

Setup a DC and a separate vCenter server. Installed all the components but when I try to register the vCenter with the web tools by using https://localhost:9443/admin-app I get a 404 page not found error.

I've done a complete clean rebuilt just incase I screwed up the install but I cant see anything to screw up.

The web client works fine just no vCenter in it.

Any help gladly received.

Cheers

Andy

Hey Andy,

Welcome to the community.

There is not Administration tool in vCenter 5.5. When you login to the vCenter web client your vCenter will already be present there. You don't have to go to admin-app and register it manually.

The inventory does not show up when you login to normal web client? Which user are you using to login?

Thanks for that.

Ah then I have a different problem because its not >.<

I have no vCenters in the web client. That was why I was trying to use admin-app.

Any idea what I did wrong? There don't appear to be any options during the install.

Which user are you using to login into the web client? Login using Administrator@vsphere.local and see if the vcenter shows up.

ARG!

Thanks. I'm still using 4.1 at work so haven't seen much of SSO and most of the 5.5 links point to 5.1 docs so I was going around in circles for a while.

Many thanks for the help, I'm in and working now.

Hi. Are you saying you can view your vCenter 4.1 in the Web client?

If so, where/how did you register it? Thanks in advance

No, I was saying Im using 4 at work but my lab is 5.5 only.

Sorry cant help but i would expect that you would need to upgrade to 5.5 vcenter.

Verified.

I setup a quick test 5.5 vCenter appliance. Yup I see it in the web client. Unlike 5.1, it seems we can't see prior versions of vCenter in 5.5

Ok, moving right along.... Smiley Happy
