vCenter 4.0 to vCenter 5.0 - ESX 4.1 U2 Hosts?

Hi,

i have currently a vSphere 4 env. running. Now i need to add new ESXi 5 Hosts, so i have to update vCenter 4 to vCenter 5.

For several reasons, i cannot update the ESX 4.1 U2 Hosts (not ESXi!!) to ESXi 5.0

Can i manage ESX 4.1 U2 Hosts with vCenter 5.0 or do i need to update the Hosts too at the same time ?

Hello.

You can manage ESX 4.1 U2 with vCenter Server 5.  Check http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php for verification.

Good Luck!

This should be supported with no issues.   Check out the Interoperability matrix for more information, http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php?.

vCenter 5 requires 64-Bit OS, right? I've 2008 R2, so i can make an inplace upgrade.

yes, your'll need a 64bit Host OS.  So if you have W2K8 R2, you're good to go.
