used datastore for client

i have an esxi server with about 40 clients on it.

around 60% of the vmwares is located on the HDD of the server and the rest on a our NAS.

For migration purposes all of the machines need to be temporarily on our NAS.

Where can i get an easy overview on where are the clients located (if they used the local HDD or the NAS).

The Virtual Machines grid view doesn't allow to add a collumn to view this correctly.

Any ideas?

Joris

Hi,

I would recommend the RVTools by Rob de Veij.

They deliver great detailed info about your VMs. (the vDisk tab will show you the info you want)

You can download them for free here: http://www.robware.net/

Well, kind of. It's just not implemented in the GUI, but you can get all those information the RVTools show you with the VMware PowerCLI.

If you are good at the PowerShell and want to write scripts to show those infos by yourself, you should take a look at the infinite amount of nice scripting snippets that our scripting god LucD posted Smiley Wink

Or you can browse the datastore(s) for your local attached storage and see what VMs are running there.  I would recommend the RVTools instead though Smiley Happy
