I'm currently running esxi 4.1. Can someone point me in the right direction for upgrading the hosts and vsphere to version 5?

It's also usefull to read some other sources, like the what's new, etc.: http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-pubs.html
But basicly it's about:
- looking up your hardware in the hcl: www.vmware.com/go/hcl to see if your hardware is supported in the new version
- take backups of the vCenter Databases
- upgrade the vCenter Server
- upgrade the ESXi hosts
