upgrade esx 3.5 to esx 4.0

Hello

I'm vcp and vsp on esx 3.5 with vc 2.5

I have actually 2 esx 3.5 and I want to upgrade to vpshere so some questions :

1-Is it a good idear to upgrade to vphere today. Does vsphere is well working with no bug ? Must I wait several mounth before

2-Upgrade path: Best practice ? Can just boot on vsphere and upgrade (keep vm of course)

3 Vcenter : can I upgrade with the vsphere iso and ok is ok ? Not bug ??

4 Licence : my actual licence esx 3.5 will not work anaymore ? I will fist in evaluation mode and must wait for my new vsphere licence ?

5 Can i have mixed esx : esx 3.5 with esx 4.0 and so cxan I still use vcenter 2.5 or MustI use vsphere vcenter ?

Hi,

first, there are an good upgrade guide in the vsphere documentation.

to your questions:

1: i have already upgraded some systems to vsphere 4 .. an no realy issue´s so far .. but i think there will be some bugs .. every so complex software have some bugs ..

2: upgrade vcenter server, use update manager or host update utility to update your 3.x hosts to 4.0, update the vmware tools inside your vm´s, shutdown your vm´s and upgrade the virtual hardware to version 7

3: download the vcenter software from www.vmware.com

4: you need new licenses, if you under an active sns you will get it for free, check the licensing portal:

5: you can have mixed esx 3.5 and esx 4.0, but you need to upgrade your vcenter server to 4.x

an remember that for vsphere there are an new hcl, check your systems first: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php
