upgrade 4.1u3 to 5.0u3 Success but failed to connect

Hi all,

I upgrade 4.1u3ESX to 5.0u3ESXi was a  Success but it fails to connect to vCenter5.

1. yes the host pings.

2. There is no webui to the host

3. ssh works to the host.

4. vCenter nor the vsphere client can connect.

5. host has been powered down/up, restarted, management agents are running.

(hostd will not stay running) it will start then then stop.

6 reinstalled the upgrade at the host. no change,

7.~ # /etc/init.d/hostd status

hostd is not running.

~ # /etc/init.d/hostd start

[306534] Begin 'hostd ++min=0,swap,group=hostd /etc/vmware/hostd/config.xml', min-uptime = 60, max-quick-failures = 1, max-total-failures = 1000000, bg_pid_file = ''

hostd started.

~ # /etc/init.d/hostd status

hostd is not running.

~ #

8. this KB Service mgmt-vmware restart may not restart hostd in ESX/ESXi (1005566)

/var/run/vmware # ls -l vmware-hostd.PID watchdog-hostd.PID

ls: watchdog-hostd.PID: No such file or directory

-rw-r--r--    1 root     root                  6 Sep 30 16:22 vmware-hostd.PID

/var/run/vmware # cat vmware-hostd.PID

306994/var/run/vmware

9. hostd started.

/var/run/vmware # /etc/init.d/vpxa start

[308751] Begin '/usr/lib/vmware/vpxa/bin/vpxa ++min=0,swap,group=vpxa -D /etc/vmware/vpxa', min-uptime = 60, max-quick-failures = 1, max-total-failures = 1000000, bg_pid_file = ''

Unable to verify vpxa started after 10 seconds

/var/run/vmware # /etc/init.d/hostd status

hostd is not running.

/var/run/vmware # /etc/init.d/vpxa status

vpxa is not running

/var/run/vmware #

well might have except support reset the system,, hostd.log file is new.

So it now connects but the problem went unsolved.

Not a  disk issue.

Know issue in 5.0U1 but it was resolved in 5.0U3 except in my case.

Since the system was reset, all logs are gone, no way of knowing what failed.
