Hello,
i upgraded a vcenter server from 5.1 to 5.5. inc updatemanager, sso etc and connected the inventoryserver to the "old" oracle-database.
After this i upgraded some esxi.(4 of 6).
When i try to power on a VM on a 5.5 esxi it say "not allowd in the current state". vmotion from 5.1esxi to 5.5 says "vm hardware version is not compatible with host". vmotion from 5.1esxi to 5.1esxi works fine.
whats wrong?

What is the current virtual machine hardware version?
Check the following article talks about virtual hardware compatibility list
VMware KB: ESXi/ESX hosts and compatible virtual machine hardware versions list
VMversion7 from ESXi5.1 to ESXi5.5: "the virtual machine version is not compatible with the version of the host"
VMversion7 from ESXi5.1 to ESXi5.1: works
VMversion8 from ESXi5.5 to ESXi5.1: "the operation is not allowed in the current state"
VMversion8 from ESXi5.1 to ESXi5.5: "the operation is not allowed in the current state"
in which logfile can i find whats going wrong?
edit:
Poweron VM on ESXi5.1: works
Poweron VM on ESXi5.5: "the operation is not allowed in the current state"
1. if i connect vsphereclient directly to the esxi (5.5 or 5.1) i can poweron the VMs.
2. I can deregister VM on one ESXi and register it on another and i go on on 1.
Are you able to power on the same VM which you failed to power on on esxi5.5 which was connected to vcenter from direct vsphere client session??
Check in vmware.log of the virtual machine if you get any message.
yes, directly connected to a esxi i can poweron every vm.
when i'm at home i will read the logfile.
I think i will call the support.
