unable to load LTO2 tape drive on Vsphere

I have a Dell 2950 with Vsphere Essentials installed on it. Unfortunately it just wont install the LTO2 tape drive as it just hangs on the storage... until i turn the tape drive off.

The Vsphere installed the drive first time round and I could add it to my guest servers but after a host reboot the host server hangs while the tape drive is swithced on.

The tape drive is a Tandberg LTO2 which has been working.

Please can someone assist me with this issue?

Have you connect the tape to a dedicated (and supported) SCSI/SAS card?

It must be different from your storage card.

Also a lot of people have troube with SCSI passthrough in vSphere.

For some people the solution is use VMDirectPath (see ) instead of VM SCSI passthrough.

The tape drive is conected to a dedicated card which is seperate from the storage. It was working and after a host server reboot the server hangs. How do i go about setting up VMDirectPath?

VMDirectPath require a supported hardware.

For the configuration see: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1010789
