unable to delete the virtual disk file. Zombie fils

Even after running "service mgmt-vmware restart" on all the esx hosts, I am still unable to delete the virtual disk file. The original machine has been destroyed and am trying to free up space by deleting this file from the data store. There were no snapshots of this volume. Trying to avoid restarting the entire host.

Could you please try to check "Task & Events" in Vi client to see if there is any detailed info about it?

Also if you just want to delete the file for more free space, you may want to try remove it manually with 'rm' command from Datastore.

Do you have permissions to delete from datastore? As suggested above try removing it from cmd line.

it may takes some times to troubleshoot, but if you have the luxury to reboot the hosts, then it's one of the easiest/quickest way.

Even though KB article http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1006401 is for ESX 3.x, you may use it to determine what is locking the file.
