I am trying to collect Diagnostic information requested from VMWARE and I am getting an error message

I'm not sure their reasoning for that, but it seems like a pain in the butt. Why don't you just export the logs with the vSphere Client? File -> Export -> Export System Logs
Or
Use the vSphere Support Assistant that will allow you to collect and automatically upload logs?
