trash characters vs menu: missing xxxx

No, I'm not even sure what that is?  This is base installation

In this situation somethink went wrong with installation or update, or someone changed file structure on hosts filesystem.

Is it possible that you reinstall this host?

I didn't do anything to it, just the base installation?  is there an update I should perform? to clear this up?

I can/will try to reinstall the software this weekend.

And where did you get this ESXi ISO? From your screenshot, it appears to be a tech preview.

Hello glousteau​.

Others indicated same crash in that build (3357452 - 2015.12.21) of the client, if you read the comments here it was fixed long ago (so update your environment) but may potentially be worked around by clearing browser cache:

Hi,

I appreciate the responses and guidance.  I have re-imaged my server and NO longer getting that error.  Now that I'm going to build a VM, I'm getting this error though

Failed to create virtual machine vm. Cannot complete the operation because the file or folder /vmfs/volumes/5c712ad5-5c7d575a-2edf-288023b3015c/blah_test already exists - dismiss

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Can you browse the datastore and check if there is a folder named "blah_test" already exists. Try creating a vm with different name if you do not want to delete the folder or rename the existing folder and try creating a VM.

that directory does NOT exist and I get the same error no matter what directory name I use

Your directions are generic for updating the host client, but where do I get the file itself?

I'm fighting a seperate issue (mouse cursor doesn't appear in guest console window), but still haven't updated the host client and thinking this might help resolve that too?
