svmotion concucurrent sessions

how many svmotion concurrent sessions can run at the same time? I am on vsphere 5.5 and esxi 5.5 hosts and I only get 3 sesson going at the same time. All other sessions are saying

resources currently in use by other operations. Waiting

any idea?

I'm interested in this as well. In our environment (vSphere 5.5, Dell 12G blades, 10Gb EqualLogic storage) we can do 4-5 simultaneous SVmotions per host before seeing the "Resources in use by other operations" status for subsequent tasks.

According with configuration maximums:

Storage vMotion operations per host: 2

Storage vMotion operations per datastore: 8

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r55/vsphere-55-configuration-maximums.pdf

In how many hosts this VMs are running ?

I am smovtioning from multiple datastores to one destination. Now I am doing 9 at a time and there are only 4 sessions active.

The source VMs are actually spread across 3 different FC datastores but I am moving them to one iscsi datastore

But how many Hosts are in this picture?

there are two maximums in play here.  max movements per host 2 and max movements per datastore 4

if you only have 2 hosts then your maximum will be 4 active migrations no matter how many datastores your have.

if you have many more hosts ie 10 then your theortical maximum movements per host will be 20. however then you will be limited to the datastore maximum.  in your case as your are moving your machines to a single iSCSI datastore your maximum active migrations will be 4 as that is the limit for movements to a datastore

I hope this clears it up for you.  Smiley Happy
