Check whether your hosts is compatible for ESXi 5.5. You can check vmware compatibility list on vmware site.

1. Download ESXi 5.5 iso

2. Plan a downtime. Power off your vms

3. Boot your host with esxi 5.5 iso (Take remote console through ilo/idrac or mount a CD physically to the host )

4. Once you accept the EULA, you will get list of options, here choose "Upgrade ESXi, preserve VMFS datastores"

Wait for upgrade to complete.

Thanks

Have a look at

Methods for upgrading to ESXi 5.5 (2058352)

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2058352

You can use the esxcli method.

Here's another link that should get you going.  Remember 5.5 is End of Support https://www.vmguru.com/2018/08/vsphere-5-5-end-of-life-now-what/

Update a stand alone (free) ESXi 5.1 to 6.5?
