snapshots_

Is it possible to take snapshots or clones of a Virtual machines on a low performance disk(NL SAS or SATA) even if the VMDK of the virtual machine in on high performance FC disks?

Hi,

IF you want to clone VM to (NL SAS or SATA) , yes you can do it. ALso you can place snapshot of VM on different datastore built from (NL SAS or SATA)

Although it is technically possible to place snapshots/linked clones in other datastores, it may not make sense to do this. Virtual disks with snapshots are used as a chain, where each chain link is in use. Placing one of the chain links on slower storage will slow down the whole VM (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015180)
