I'm diving into a project that was left without an IT department for a while. They have an ESXi environment on 5.1. Before I update this environment I'm trying to get it in a better position.
I'm seeing a few vm's on a datastore and it's up and running just fine. On a separate datastore, there are 000003.vmdk files for the same vm's, but i'm not seeing any snapshots or additional hard disks on the vm's. I'm thinking I can just delete them as they don't appear to be associated with the good running vm, but wanted to post the question to verify. Am I able to get rid of these vmdk files without issue?
Thanks
What I find helpful is RVTools, which lists orphaned .vmdk files as Zombies.
In any case, make sure that you check the VMs' vmware.log files for entries regarding these files before you delete them, or maybe better first move them to a new sub-directory, and delete them later.

Ah, good tool. Yes, listed as zombie on those vmdk's. Thanks for your help.
